During high school, and for many years after high school, several of my high school classmates and I would get together each year on the day after Thanksgiving, and on New Year's Day, for a pickup football game.

Alas, those days are long gone.  Our last such get-together was ten full years ago.  Several of us have moved out of the area, we're older now (and no longer in shape) and it's just not feasible to continue this yearly tradition.

This year, however, I suggested a cornhole outing, and a few of my old classmates responded favorably.

Up until this past August, I had never even heard of cornhole before!  In mid September I spent a weekend up in Solvang, visiting my Jennifer, and during that weekend she introduced me to it.  Lots of fun!  As soon as I got back from that weekend visit, I immediately purchased my own cornhole board and bags!

I thought of a few advantages in playing cornhole over football.  For one, cornhole doesn't require as many people!  Two, I think it's a bit more sociable and three, it doesn't require as much endurance or athletic ability.  It can also be played just about anywhere - it certainly doesn't require a large empty field as our football games did.  Finally, most cornhole games don't take more than a few minutes to play...so you're able to play many more games.

Anyway, below are the results of our nine games.  Final scores of each game listed in parenthesis.

Game #1 7 Rounds Ed & Ted (23) vs Brendan & Jim (3)
Game #2 8 Rounds Ed & Brendan (22) vs Ted & Jim (3)
Game #3 10 Rounds Ed & Jim (27) vs Brendan & Ted (5)
Game #4 10 Rounds Ed & Brendan (26) vs Jim & Ted (12)
Game #5 10 Rounds Ed & Ted (23) vs Brendan & Jim (12)
Game #6 9 Rounds Ed & Cleon (21) vs Ted & Brendan (1)
Game #7 28 Rounds Cleon & Jim (22) vs Brendan & Ted (18)
Game #8 12 Rounds Ed & Jim (26) vs Brendan & Cleon (11)
Game #9 13 Rounds Ed & Ted (23) vs Jim & Cleon (5)

Game #7 was clearly the most exciting game!
Cleon & Jim came back to defeat Brendan & Ted, by the score of 22 to 18, after being down 11 to 3 and then 18 to 8!

Here's a graph of that exciting game:

Here are a few statistics on how well we each did:

If the results look poor, it's because my classmates had never played cornhole before!

In hindsight, I should have considered setting up the two boards closer together, say 23 feet apart, instead of the standard 27 feet apart.
There was no reason we had to play via the standard dimensions.
If I had done that, I believe everyone would have had much more success in hitting the board, and in scoring cornholes.

Video:

I recorded the matches, via a Go-Pro camera clone.  You can see the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0pp04zBfis

(I cut out the portion of the video when we took a 25 minute break after Game #8.)

Note:  It's an inexpensive video camera... and as such, the video quality isn't very great.  (You get what you pay for.)  Someday I really should spring for something a bit more expensive.

Here's another site that hosts the video:  https://clipchamp.com/watch/kz9FPXZrRis.

Photos:

I put my cell phone on a tripod and set it up to take a photograph every 15 seconds.  Here are a few of the better photos.  In most of the action shots, if you look closely, you can see the bean bag still in mid-flight, on its way to the board!   (Sometimes it's "hidden" in the trees.)
